Amazon AWD Comes to the UK and Europe

Announced by Amazon on 20 August 2026. Bulk storage with automatic top-ups to FBA — and free storage for the rest of 2026.

Last updated: 19 September 2026

In brief: sellers in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain can now use Amazon Warehousing and Distribution (AWD). It stores stock in bulk in Amazon distribution centres at a flat rate, then moves it into FBA warehouses automatically when your FBA stock runs low. For the whole of Q4 2026 (1 October–31 December) Amazon isn't charging AWD storage on eligible stock; handling and transport fees still apply.

Amazon also offers discounts on storage and transport when AWD is used with other eligible Amazon services.

What it means for your bookkeeping

New kinds of cost, possibly different treatment

AWD brings three types of charge, which accountants often treat differently:

  • Transport and inbound handling to get stock to where it's sold can usually be included in the cost of your stock under UK accounting standards, so it's expensed when the stock sells.
  • Storage is normally an expense in the month it's incurred, not part of stock cost.
  • Outbound processing and replenishment are fulfilment-type running costs.

Agree the approach with your accountant and set up an account for each, so AWD's true cost is visible.

Stock in AWD is still your stock

Stock sitting in AWD isn't in your FBA stock figures. Remember to include it in stock counts and year-end valuations, or your balance sheet will understate what you own.

A zero-storage quarter distorts comparisons

With storage free until 31 December 2026, Q4 AWD costs will look unusually low. Budget for the storage fee returning in January rather than rolling Q4's figures forward.

AWD storage and transfer charges are deducted from Amazon payouts, so treat them like other fee lines when you reconcile a settlement — see also Amazon FBA bookkeeping.

How TrueBooks helps

TrueBooks posts every fee in your Amazon settlements to its own account with the right UK VAT, so Amazon storage and fulfilment costs stay visible in Xero as you move stock between services. See the Amazon Xero integration.
