Announced by Amazon on 12 July 2022, summing up the Partnered Carrier discounts that ran until April 2023 — after an 80% offer in 2021.

Historical update: this article covers an Amazon announcement from 12 July 2022. Amazon's fees, rules and programmes may have changed since — check Seller Central for the current position before acting on it.

In brief: the Amazon Partnered Carrier programme lets FBA sellers book inbound shipments to Amazon's warehouses at Amazon-negotiated rates, with the charge taken from their seller account. Amazon discounted it several times. In 2021, sellers new to the programme got 80% off domestic shipments created between 1 April and 30 September 2021 in any of the five main European stores (UK, DE, FR, IT, ES). From 12 April 2022 to 12 April 2023, UK domestic parcel shipments were about 20% cheaper on average, and domestic parcel and pallet shipments in Germany, France, Italy and Spain were about 50% cheaper.

The Amazon Partnered Carrier discounts

Period Where Discount
1 Apr – 30 Sep 2021 UK, DE, FR, IT, ES domestic 80% (only for sellers who hadn't used the programme in Jan–Feb 2021)
From 12 Apr 2022 UK domestic parcels (e.g. UPS) Average 20% lower rates
12 Apr 2022 – 12 Apr 2023 DE, FR, IT, ES domestic parcels and pallets Average 50%

Actual charges still depended on box count, size, weight and the rate applied.

A worked example

A UK seller sends 40 boxes a month to Amazon at an average £6.00 each through the programme — £240. An average 20% reduction brings that to about £192, a saving of £48 a month (£576 a year).

What it means for your bookkeeping

  • Inbound shipping is part of stock cost. Transport to get stock to where it's sold can usually be included in the cost of stock (FRS 102), rather than expensed straight away — agree the approach with your accountant.

  • It's taken from your settlement. Partnered Carrier charges are deducted from Amazon payouts, so they need posting from the settlement rather than a supplier bill.

  • Discounts end. When promotions expire, inbound costs rise; compare per-box costs before and after.

  • VAT: take the treatment from Amazon's invoice. Fees billed before August 2024 used the reverse charge — see VAT on Amazon fees.

  • Where it shows up. Inbound charges are deducted in the settlement, not billed separately — see reconciling an Amazon settlement.
