FBA Fee Discounts for Using Amazon's Recommended Packing Method

Announced by Amazon on 24 July 2025. An optional way to cut future FBA fulfilment fees by packing inbound stock Amazon's way.

Last updated: 19 September 2026

Historical update: this article covers an Amazon announcement from 24 July 2025. Amazon's fees, rules and programmes may have changed since — check Seller Central for the current position before acting on it.

In brief: since 24 July 2025, when you create an inbound shipment in Send to Amazon you can choose Amazon's recommended packing method. Amazon suggests "pack groups" — sets of SKUs to box together so stock can be spread across its warehouses efficiently. If the boxes arrive packed as recommended, Amazon applies an FBA fulfilment fee discount to future orders within 30 days of verifying the shipment. It's optional, and you can see the discount before committing.

How Amazon's recommended packing method works

Step What happens
Create a shipment Pick the recommended packing option in step 1b of Send to Amazon
Pack Box products in the suggested pack groups
Verification Amazon checks every box once the whole shipment has arrived
Discount Within 30 days of successful checks, a fee discount is applied to future FBA orders (capped at the maximum Amazon shows)

Is it worth it?

Compare the discount Amazon shows against any extra packing effort or inbound cost from splitting products differently. For sellers who already send mixed-SKU boxes, the discount may be close to free money; for single-SKU case packers it may mean more handling.

What it means for your bookkeeping

  • The discount reduces future fulfilment fees. It won't arrive as a separate payment; it lowers the FBA fees on later orders. Keep it within your FBA fees account so your fee-to-sales ratio stays accurate.

  • Timing differs from the work. The packing effort happens on the inbound shipment; the saving lands on orders weeks later. If you track the cost of preparing stock, link the two by shipment when judging whether it paid off.

  • VAT follows the reduced fee. A lower UK fulfilment fee means less VAT charged and less to reclaim; use the amounts on Amazon's invoices.

  • Where it shows up. The discount reduces the fulfilment fee line in the settlement — see Amazon FBA bookkeeping and reconciling an Amazon settlement.

How TrueBooks helps
