Amazon seller news · Fees · Announced 15 August 2024
Announced by Amazon on 15 August and 12 September 2024. Two separate cuts made bulky items cheaper to fulfil across Europe.
Last updated: 19 September 2026
Historical update: this article covers an Amazon announcement from 15 August 2024. Amazon's fees, rules and programmes may have changed since — check Seller Central for the current position before acting on it.
In brief: the small oversize fee reduction of 2024 came in two parts, as Amazon cut the cost of bulky products that autumn. From 1 September 2024, the Pan-EU FBA oversize surcharge — an extra charge when oversize stock sold in one country is stored in another — fell by 30–50% for sales in France, Italy and Spain, and applied in fewer situations. From 16 September 2024, domestic and Pan-EU FBA fees for small oversize items dropped by as much as £1.60 (€1.87) a unit in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain.
| Store | Which small oversize bands | Cut |
|---|---|---|
| UK, France, Italy, Spain | All four (items up to 61 × 46 × 46 cm and 1.76 kg) | 12–30% |
| Germany | Two (items up to 61 × 46 × 46 cm and 1.26 kg) | 22–28% |
Other domestic FBA fees in those stores were unchanged.
The surcharge had been announced in December 2023 as part of the 2024 fee changes. The September revision:
A seller moves 400 small oversize units a month in the UK. At an average saving of £1.20 a unit (within Amazon's "up to £1.60"), that's about £480 a month — close to £6,000 a year — without any change in what the seller does.
Separate the surcharge from the fee. The Pan-EU oversize surcharge appears apart from the fulfilment fee; tracking it separately shows whether your stock placement is costing you money.
Placement is a cost decision. Because the surcharge depends on where stock is sent versus where it sells, sending inventory into the selling country can remove it altogether. Look at the surcharge line before deciding where to ship.
Margins on bulky items improve from mid-September 2024. Note the date when comparing periods.
UK VAT unchanged. Fees for UK sellers carry 20% UK VAT, reclaimable if you're VAT-registered.
Where it shows up. Lower fulfilment fees show per unit in the settlement — see Amazon FBA bookkeeping and reconciling an Amazon settlement.
TrueBooks posts fulfilment fees and surcharges from every settlement to their own accounts in Xero with the right VAT, and keeps each marketplace in its own currency, so the effect of these cuts shows up clearly. See the Amazon Xero integration.
