Amazon Adds a 1.5% Fuel and Logistics Surcharge to FBA Fees

Announced by Amazon on 2 April 2026. The surcharge is temporary, but there's no end date yet.

In brief: Amazon now adds 1.5% to its fulfilment fees to cover higher fuel and logistics costs. It started on 17 April 2026 for FBA and on 2 May 2026 for Multi-Channel Fulfilment (MCF). It's charged on the fulfilment fee, not your selling price — on average about 5p (or 5 euro cents) per unit.

Amazon describes the surcharge as temporary and says it will keep it under review. It also applies on top of the festive peak fulfilment fee during Q4 — see peak season 2026 fees.

What it costs

The surcharge is 1.5% of each unit's fulfilment fee, so bigger and heavier items pay more. A seller shipping 3,000 FBA units a month at an average fulfilment fee of £3.20 pays £9,600 in fulfilment fees. The surcharge adds 1.5% of that: £144 a month, or about £1,700 a year.

What it means for your bookkeeping

  • Treat it as part of your FBA fees. It's a fulfilment cost, so post it to the same account as the fulfilment fees it's charged on.
  • Same VAT as the fee. For UK sellers, fulfilment fees carry 20% UK VAT, which VAT-registered sellers can reclaim — see reclaiming VAT on Amazon seller fees.
  • Explain the step in your costs. Fulfilment costs rise by 1.5% from mid-April 2026. If you compare months or years, note the change so it isn't mistaken for a rise in volume or a pricing error.
  • Review prices on low-margin lines. 1.5% of the fee is small per unit, but it comes straight off profit on products you sell in volume.
