Amazon Changes Professional Selling Plan Fee Billing

In brief: from 1 August 2021, Amazon changed how the Professional selling plan subscription was billed for sellers with merged global accounts (selling in more than one region). The fee was split across the accounts where you had active listings that month, charged in each store's own currency, and billed on a single monthly date instead of each region's sign-up anniversary. The total stayed capped at the equivalent of US$39.99 a month (excluding tax). Sellers in Europe kept paying the subscription in just one European country.

A worked example

A UK seller also lists in the US and Canada. Before August 2021 they might see one subscription charge; afterwards their Americas share could appear as separate charges in US and Canadian dollars in each store's settlement, alongside the European charge — but the total still couldn't exceed the US$39.99 equivalent.

What it means for your bookkeeping

• Several small charges, one cost. Subscription fees may appear in more than one settlement and currency; post them all to the same subscription expense account.

• Currency conversion. Charges in dollars need converting at the right rate, so small differences month to month are normal.

• Only active regions pay. If a region had no active listings in a month, no fee was due there — useful when checking charges.
