How Amazon FBA Storage Fees Work for UK Sellers in 2026

Rates checked against Amazon's FBA rate card effective 1 July 2026. Storage costs almost double in October for most standard-size stock, and two surcharges can outweigh the base fee.

Last updated: 25 September 2026

In brief: Amazon FBA storage fees UK 2026 rates are charged per cubic foot of your average daily stock volume. For standard-size products outside clothing and footwear, the base rate is £0.76 a month from January to September and £1.51 from October to December. On top of that, an aged inventory surcharge starts at 241 days, and a storage utilisation surcharge applies when stock outside clothing, eyewear, shoes and bags covers more than 22 weeks of sales.

The two storage surcharges

Storage utilisation surcharge. Amazon divides your average daily stored volume by your average daily shipped volume over the last 13 weeks. The result, in weeks, sets the surcharge. The ratio is worked out separately for standard-size and oversize products, and excludes clothing, eyewear, shoes and bags. New sellers are exempt for 52 weeks from their first delivery into Amazon's warehouses, as are Individual accounts and anyone storing under 25 cubic feet a day. Amazon folds it into the base monthly storage fee.

Weeks of cover Standard-size Oversize
22 or fewer none none
Over 22, up to 28 £0.42 £0.12
Over 28, up to 36 £0.78 £0.25
Over 36, up to 44 £1.04 £0.45
Over 44, up to 52 £1.41 £0.62
Over 52 £2.29 £0.81

Aged inventory surcharge. This is charged on top of the base fee for stock held a long time.

Days in stock UK rate, per month
241 to 270 £1.18 per cubic foot (not clothing, footwear, bags, luggage, jewellery or watches)
271 to 300 £3.14 per cubic foot
301 to 330 £3.26 per cubic foot
331 to 365 £3.41 per cubic foot

Over 455 £6.14 per cubic foot or £0.25 per unit, whichever is greater

A worked example

An illustrative example: a seller stores an average of 300 cubic feet of standard-size, non-hazardous stock in the UK. Their stock covers 30 weeks of sales, and 25 cubic feet of it is 280 days old.

  • September base fee: 300 × £0.76 = £228.00
  • October base fee: 300 × £1.51 = £453.00
  • Utilisation surcharge (28 to 36 weeks): 300 × £0.78 = £234.00
  • Aged surcharge (271 to 300 days): 25 × £3.14 = £78.50
  • October total: £453.00 + £234.00 + £78.50 = £765.50 before VAT
  • With 20% VAT: £765.50 × 1.2 = £918.60

The surcharges add £312.50, more than the whole September base fee.

What it means for your bookkeeping

  • Keep storage apart from fulfilment. Sellers usually post storage to its own account, separate from FBA fulfilment fees. The utilisation surcharge is added to the base storage fee, so it won't appear as a separate charge. The aged inventory surcharge is worth tracking on its own if overstocking is a concern. Our FBA bookkeeping guide sets out a full fee structure.
  • Reclaim the VAT. Since 1 August 2024, UK storage fees billed by Amazon carry 20% UK VAT, reclaimable as input tax if you're VAT-registered. See how to reclaim VAT on Amazon seller fees.
  • Match the fee to its month. Check which month each storage charge covers against the settlement it appears in. If it covers an earlier month, it is normally accrued to that month, especially at your year end; agree the approach with your accountant.
  • Expect lumpy settlements. October storage can be almost double September's. A large charge can even turn a quiet settlement negative, one reason an Amazon payout doesn't match Xero.
  • Keep the reports. Save Amazon's monthly storage fee and aged inventory reports as evidence of the volumes and ages behind each charge.

Do you need to do anything?

Before October, check your weeks of cover and oldest stock, and weigh removing or discounting slow lines against the winter surcharges.
